"Newly renovated"
I have stayed at The Mercure in Munich twice. I have just returned recently in late December. The Mercure is centrally located, and just around the corner from Marienplatz- Munich's main square. I could see the two onion-domed towers of the landmark building Frauenkirche from my room window. When I first stayed at the Mercure in June of 2002 the hotel was in a midst of being renovated. The rooms are comfortable, cozy and updated. Bathrooms are new, clean with white tile. Rooms are reasonably priced for such a great location. They do charge extra for breakfast which ususally is always included in european hotels. I would suggest to waive the breakfast at the hotel, because you can have a delightful breakfast or croissant etc at a wonderful bistro in the main pedestrian area. I have forgotton the name of the bistro, but it's three or four doors down from the Max Krug shop. The bistro has cakes and pastries to die for, and great cappacinos. Back to the hotel.....the lobby is not much to speak of, but I'm not in Munich to spend time in a lobby, so this has no importance to me. Adjacent to the hotel is a restaurant with a bavarian atmosphere. Food such as sausages, schnitzels, dumplings and beef is served. Good food at moderate prices. I plan to stay at The Mercure a third time.
